The Findley Lake Watershed Foundation (FLWF) plans to treat curly-leaf pondweed and sago pondweed in up to 38 acres on May 5. The DEC has issued a permit to treat these areas with Aquathol-K, as shown in yellow in the figure. The exact treatment locations within the approved areas will be determined by our consultant, Ready Scout, based on observed weed density at the time of application.
On the day of treatment, signs will be posted advising that swimming is restricted for 24 hours following treatment and that lake water should not be used for drinking until herbicide concentration levels fall below 50 ppb. Signs will be removed once these levels are reached.
The cost for permitting and treatment with Aquathol-K is approximately $46,850. The FLWF has also received permits and is planning additional treatments, including the use of ProcellaCOR (targeting Eurasian water milfoil) in up to 20 acres at the south end of the lake in June, as well as potential treatment of a harmful algal bloom later in the summer, if needed. These additional efforts are estimated to cost up to $26,600.
As of now, 2026 memberships and contributions have not yet reached the level needed to fully fund these additional treatments.
